Matatabi - Meowth Chef

The Nyaasu, or Meowth, are a species of bipedal feline carnivorous mammals. They are one of the four sapient races in Kanto, possessing a phenomenal level of stealth, dexterity, and balance. These traits allow them a great proficiency in both hunting small game and, when cooperating, the take down larger prey. They are known to primarily enjoy a variety of seafood, and they often build small boats to hunt for fish or shellfish, which they consume both raw and cooked.

A family of Meowth is called a "pounce", usually consisting of 6 to 20 cats, including a dominant male, several females, and their kittens. In the wild, multiple pounces may form a clan, whilst strays often make a nuisance of themselves by stealing from hunters and travellers. Some Meowth have also entered human society, making their living as chefs, fishers, scouts, or even traders.

This particular Meowth, Matatabi, is in Professor Oak's employ as the head chef of the estate. He was named after the silver vine, a plant intoxicating to the Meowth, although his name can also mean "the wandering life of a gambler". In the language of the Captain of the Garrison, "Matata" means "troublemaker." Since the Captain is called Amari - meaning "strength" in his own language, but "not much" in Matatabi's, the two of them often find themselves mocking each others' names.
